Local Heritage Places

Bourke Shire Council offers small grants anually on a $ for $ basis to private home owners for restoration and repair work.   Conserving places of historic value is important to the whole community.

This is a good opportunity for owners of old houses to look at repairing or repainting their home.   Some of the work that has received assistance in the past includes repairing verandahs, internal and external painting and roof repairs.

If you think you have a project that might qualify for these funds, or wish to make an appointment with Council’s Heritage Advisor, please phone Carolyn Crain on (02) 6830 8000.   Local Heritage Fund Application forms are available from Council’s offices, 29 Mitchell Street, Bourke, or can be downloaded below.

Applications are to be submitted to Council by 4.00pm, Friday 31st August 2018.

Aboriginal Heritage Study

The Bourke Shire Council are working towards a better understanding of Aboriginal cultural heritage sites and values within the Bourke Local Government Area (LGA) and are updating and finalising the Bourke Shire Aboriginal Heritage Study which is supported financially by a grant from the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage. The aim of the Bourke LGA Aboriginal Heritage Study is to work with the Aboriginal community to identify and record places of significance and develop recommendations for their management and conservation.

The Aboriginal Heritage Study provides the Aboriginal community and the Council the opportunity to work together to achieve meaningful long-term outcomes for Aboriginal community cultural heritage in the Bourke LGA.

There will be consultation meetings in Bourke and Enngonia in early June this year and we are looking forward to hearing from members of the community at that time.

Further information can be obtained by contacting Council on 6830 8000.
